Plan your bedtime without treating 90 minutes as a rule.

Choose your target: a wake-up time, a bedtime, or the time available between the two. Sleeple provides transparent estimates you can transfer to your 7-day diary.

Choose your usual estimate. This time is added before estimated sleep begins.
Use 90 minutes only as a neutral default. Individual cycles vary.

The result shows estimated sleep duration, estimated cycles and a clear duration label.

How this sleep calculator works

The tool separates time in bed from estimated sleep. It subtracts your estimated sleep latency, then uses the selected cycle length only to create planning options.

  • Wake-up mode works backwards from your target time.
  • Bedtime mode works forwards from the time you plan to go to bed.
  • Duration mode compares bedtime and wake-up time and subtracts estimated sleep latency.

Why 90 minutes is not an exact rule

Sleep alternates between non-REM and REM phases, but cycle length changes across people and across the night. The NHLBI states that cycles generally restart every 80 to 100 minutes and that sleep studies use sensors to identify stages.

How to read the duration labels

For adults, the AASM and Sleep Research Society consensus recommendation is at least 7 hours of sleep per night on a regular basis. Sleeple labels estimates below 6 hours as insufficient, 6 to under 7 hours as short, 7 to 9 hours as favourable, and estimates above 9 hours as long and context-dependent.

Limits of the result

This calculator cannot know when you actually fall asleep, whether you wake during the night, or which sleep stage you are in. Use the schedule as a starting hypothesis, then observe your real nights in the diary.

Frequently asked questions

Is waking at the end of a cycle guaranteed to make me feel rested?

No. A clock-based estimate cannot measure your sleep stages. Sleep quality, sleep debt, health, awakenings and circadian timing also matter.

Why can I choose 80, 90 or 100 minutes?

This range reflects the NHLBI description that cycles generally restart every 80 to 100 minutes. It is a planning setting, not a personal measurement.

Is six hours displayed as a recommended option?

No. It may appear so the calculation stays transparent, but it is labelled as a short duration rather than the preferred result.
